Homeschool at Home

Homeschool with us behind you

A step between homeschooling alone and enrolling at The VA School. You keep teaching your own children; we hand you the curriculum, the standards, the app our students use, a teacher who answers when you are stuck — and a place in the dojo. $20 per child per month.

What it costs

Twenty dollars, per child, per month

Stated plainly, with what it does and does not buy.

What you get

Everything we use with our own students

Homeschool at Home families use this same app. Accounts are created by the school after sign-up — there is nothing to log in to until we set yours up.

  • The School Day app

The same app our enrolled students use each day — assignments, progress, and the daily rhythm. We create your account after sign-up.

  • Standards-based curriculum

Course content mapped to grade-level standards, sequenced the way we sequence it for our own students.

  • Teacher support

A real instructor to ask when a concept will not land — by message, with scheduled check-ins.

  • Grading assistance

We grade the work you send and tell you plainly what your child has mastered and what needs another pass.

  • Taekwondo at the dojo

Physical education in person at Storm Lake, training alongside our enrolled students. Included at no extra cost — subject to travel distance and class space.

  • Mastery-based progress records

Skill-level records you can keep, so you can see progression rather than guess at it.

Physical education

Physical education, in person, at the dojo

Taekwondo is how this school does PE, and Homeschool at Home families are welcome on the floor. Your child trains in the same dojo as our enrolled students, with the same instructors and the same belt standard — at no additional cost.

Taekwondo is not an elective here — it is how this school teaches discipline, and it is the one part of campus life open to families who are not enrolled. It is also, in our experience, how a family finds out whether this school is right for them. See how instruction works.

The honest limits

What this tier is not

Said plainly up front, so nothing here is a surprise six months in.

  • Not enrollment

Your child is not a VA School student and does not appear in our enrollment records.

  • No diploma or transcript

The VA School diploma is earned by enrolled students. This tier issues no diploma and no official transcript.

  • No Iowa ESA funding

ESA follows an enrolled student at an accredited school. It does not follow this tier.

  • No cohort, no school day

The cohort group and the full instructional day in Storm Lake are part of enrollment. Taekwondo is the one part of campus life open to this tier.

  • Reporting stays with you

CPI paperwork, assessments, and district communication remain your responsibility.

  • No daily instruction

You teach. We supply the plan, the answers, and the grading — not the school day.

Your legal position

You are still the school

That is not a disclaimer — it is the point. You keep control of what your children learn and when, and we supply the parts that are hard to build alone: the sequence, the standards, someone to ask, and someone to grade.

When you are ready

When you are ready, enroll — and everything carries over

Most families who start here are testing whether our way of teaching fits their child. When the answer is yes, the next step is enrollment at the school in Storm Lake: the full day, the cohort, the diploma, and Iowa ESA funding that usually makes it cost less out of pocket than families expect.

  • Your child is thriving in the curriculum and you want the cohort around them.
  • Taekwondo has become the best part of the week and you want the rest of it.
  • You want a diploma, a transcript, and a graduation standard behind the work.
  • You want Iowa ESA funding, which requires enrollment at an accredited school.
  • The teaching day has become more than you want to carry alone.

Full enrollment is $200 per student per month, and with Iowa ESA funding of ~$8,000 per student per year most Iowa families pay less out of pocket than they expect.

Get started

Tell us about your family

No account to create and nothing to pay yet. The Head of School reads these and calls within two school days.

We will use this to reach you about setting up your account and billing.

Optional, but it is usually the fastest way for us to answer your questions.

The fee is $20 per child per month, so this is what we would bill each month.

Roughly what grades your children are in. A phrase is enough — we are not looking for anything official.

We ask only so we can tell you honestly whether coming to the dojo for Taekwondo is realistic. Everything else in this tier works the same from anywhere.

Taekwondo at the dojo

Subject to travel distance and class space. Tell us where you live and we will tell you honestly whether it works. Families outside driving range get everything else in this tier, and no Taekwondo.

Where your family is right now

Anything you would like us to know before we call — a subject that is not going well, a schedule constraint, a question about how this works.

You remain an independent homeschooling family under Iowa's Competent Private Instruction law. You are responsible for your own reporting to your district or to the state. The VA School is not your student's school of record and does not report on your behalf.
